Climate change is evident, hunger prevails and biodiversity is declining. Livestock have an important role in the economy of many countries, often underpinning the health of ecosystems.

However, local and global intensity poses pressures on many environmental outcomes especially water and air quality and biodiversity.

BSAS 2024 will debate how these pressures can be alleviated and establish the future role for livestock.

Collaborative partnerships between leading bioscience and biotechnology researchers and the UK livestock sector will be the focus of the Climate Change and Endemic Disease session.

The packed conference programme also includes sessions:

  • effective dairy cow nutrition tailored to performance at different stages of lactation
  • sustainable protein sources for use in ruminant and monogastric livestock
  • diverse pastures in future-proofing livestock sustainability
  • controlling parasites sustainably in a changing world
  • advances in breeding and genetics to support sustainable livestock systems
