Roslin Innovation Centre has attracted great interest throughout the development stages of this new multi-purpose building, combining an innovation hub and incubator space for tenant businesses; Easter Bush Science Outreach Centre for the public, schools and SMEs; and leisure amenities for staff, students and tenants.
Located at the heart of an expanding Campus, Roslin Innovation Centre is already over 60% full, with strategic tenants secured and committed to moving in within the initial weeks and months of the scheduled opening at the end of August.
Heads of Terms (HoT) have been issued to four potential mid-sized anchor tenants, who should all be signing up to 5 year leases, with a further eight HoTs issued to smaller tenants on an “easy in, easy out” 12 month lease basis. Final design briefs for customisation of office and lab space have also already been agreed with three of these four large anchor tenants.
All tenants are international in their outlook and are a good mix of established, local/multinational, start-up/spin out companies; charities and some internal University business units, with innovation at their core.
“This is positive news for Easter Bush Campus and Midlothian as between them, our tenants account for a total of 262 jobs. Within the first 12 months of opening, I’m confident we will secure an occupancy rate of 85% occupancy.”
John Mackenzie, CEO, Roslin Innovation CentreAlthough the building works are still effectively running 12 weeks behind schedule, contractors expect to hand over the ‘keys’ to the building for final University of Edinburgh fit out in July 2017 and in time for the operational opening working date of August 2017.
