AlgiSys accelerate with HATCH

Wednesday 21st May 2025, 12:26pm

AlgiSys BioSciences/AlgiSys Aqua Ltd., is a biotechnology company with an EPA rich omega-3 microalgae with protein and currently participating in the Hatch Blue Crest Accelerator Program.

Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) is one of several omega-3 fatty acids. It is found in cold-water fatty fish, such as salmon and is also found in fish oil supplements, along with docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Omega-3 fatty acids are part of a healthy diet that helps lower risk of heart disease.

Hatch Blue is a global company focused on accelerating sustainable growth and innovation in aquaculture and alternative seafood.

Their goal is to minimize the impact of farmed and alternative seafood on the environment and they offer a range of services, including investments, consulting, programs (like their CREST Accelerator), and media/marketing services.

AlgiSys recently became a Member of Roslin Innovation Centre and we welcome them to our innovation ecosystem and to learn more about their experience as part of the Hatch Blue program and the benefits for early stage companies in the aquaculture sector.

"Our experience with Hatch will better enable us to support the Scottish Salmon Aquaculture industry.

While we were originally attracted to Hatch because of their reputation as the world’s leading aquaculture accelerator program, the knowledge and experience of the team and the quality of the program has well exceeded our expectations.

Participating in the accelerator has given us a visceral understanding of our challenges and opportunities. There is no substitute for speaking with fish farmers, seeing their farms, and more deeply understanding their operational and financial challenges. "

Roger Frank, CEO of AlgiSys Aqua Ltd

Admission to the six-month program is competitive. After a rigorous application process and extensive due diligence, if selected, Hatch makes a $75,000 investment via an uncapped Safe note.

The program starts with a week at Hatch’s offices in Kona, Hawaii. The week includes workshops with different Hatch industry specialists and includes site visits with the major players in Hawaii’s aquaculture ecosystem, including Hatch alum.

In the clear, blue waters near Keahole Point in Kona, Hawaii, Blue Ocean Mariculture (pictured - February 2025) responsibly raises Hawaiian Kanpachi, a fish unmatched in quality, extraordinary taste, and versatility.

This is followed by a week in Bergen, Norway, to meet leading salmon aquaculture industry specialists and a week in Indonesia and Singapore to meet key players in the shrimp industry.

All trips include local investor meetings. In parallel, accelerator participants continue their work with the Hatch industry teams on specific company-related topics.

In April 2025, Dr. Charles Roe, AlgiSys Founder and CTO (pictured left), has a tour of Nofima’s aquafeed manufacturing facility by Eric-Jan Lock - Director, R&D. The Norwegian food research institute provides research-based knowledge and innovations for actors in all parts of the food systems.

"I would highly recommend this program to any RIC early-stage company interested in sustainable aquaculture. The Hatch team is passionate about their work and deeply committed to innovative aquacultural solutions to address climate change, biodiversity, animal welfare and gender equality."
