We extend a warm welcome to Professor John Hammond as Director of the Roslin Institute, taking up the position this month.
Professor Hammond joins from The Pirbright Institute, where he was Director of Research and led the Immunogenetics Group. His work focuses on understanding how genetic variation shapes immunity in mammals.
Professor Hammond brings a strong track record in animal bioscience and a clear vision for advancing research that supports sustainable agriculture, disease control, and improvements in animal and human health.

Professor John Hammond, Director of the Roslin InstituteProfessor Hammond will take over from Professor Mark Stevens, Deputy Director for Research at the Roslin Institute, who has held the post of Interim Director since September 2025. Prior to this, the Institute was led by Professor Bruce Whitelaw from 2020 to 2025.
