Roslin Innovation Centre (RIC) is a hub for A3 (Animal Health, Agri-tech, Aquaculture) and One Health research and innovation, designed to support innovative companies as they grow and evolve, encouraging collaboration on Campus and welcoming entrepreneurship and commercialisation opportunities.

After seven years, we bid farewell to Ingenza, a world class engineering biology company, as they take up residence at the neighbouring Pioneer - Edinburgh Technopole, a life sciences hub within Midlothian Science Zone.

Ingenza Ltd, is a spin-out from the University of Edinburgh founded in 2002, and brings together expertise that combines molecular biology, biocatalysis, and computational design into a platform-based approach that enables predictable, scalable, and efficient biomanufacturing.

The company was initially based at the former Roslin Biocentre, one of our first tenants and subsequently an anchor tenant within Roslin Innovation Centre, moving into customised lab and office space at the end of July 2018. Following several years of substantial growth, in May 2025, Ingenza relocated to a new multi-million pound purpose-built facility to allow for further expansion of their operation.

We wish Ingenza every success in their next chapter!  Although we will miss the friendly and dynamic team, we will continue to collaborate with them as they remain part of our innovation ecosystem as an ‘RIC Member’ of our community here on Easter Bush Campus.

“I was delighted to visit Ingenza in their new home and tour the company’s dedicated 20,000 square feet building on Edinburgh Technopole. This state-of-the-art space was very inspiring and provides the company with what they need for continued growth.

"Roslin Innovation Centre has been part of the company’s business journey for many years, initially with office and lab space at Roslin BioCentre, followed by relocation in 2018 to the newly built Roslin Innovation Centre.

"RIC is delighted to have supported Ingenza in their journey and wish them every success in the future as they continue to evolve and grow. I am particularly proud of the strong relationship we have in place with Pioneer - Edinburgh Technopole, which enabled us to support Ingenza with the transition to another Midlothian Science Zone Partner site, retaining the company and their economic impact within the Midlothian region. "

Val Hughes-White, RIC & Agritech Innovation Director

"Ingenza’s growth is hugely positive for our local life sciences cluster, being an exemplar model of local economic development working in easy partnership between Pioneer and RIC, enabling huge impact that will accelerate scientific discovery.

"It is vital that scaling companies like Ingenza stay in Scotland and with their move to purpose built state-of-the-art facilities at Edinburgh Technopole, part of The Pioneer Group, we are particular pleased that they remain with us within the Midlothian Science Zone.

"It’s the sum of the parts. The collaboration, ecosystem and culture that’s been developed into an innovation environment in and around ‘the zone’, particularly over these past 10 years, has created a ‘stickiness' for companies like Ingenza. That all takes time to develop and communicate, and what’s taken place is not only great for RIC, Pioneer and Ingenza but also great for Midlothian, Scotland and the UK."

John Mackenzie, Director (Scotland) The Pioneer Group

“Throughout our 7 years based at Roslin Innovation Centre, Ingenza formed many new relationships and key alliances with neighbouring companies and key individuals which proved very advantageous towards the continuous development of our network and the strengthening and awareness of our brand.

"Our customers who visited us were always hugely impressed with our facilities and the fantastic community spirit and camaraderie throughout the Easter Bush Campus. Our culture at Ingenza has always been and will always be imperative to our success and our time at RIC helped nurture and instil this further.

"I would therefore highly recommend and encourage other businesses who may be seeking office or lab occupancy to consider the Roslin Innovation Centre and all of its additional benefits it provides businesses other than simply ‘space’."

Sarah Scott, Head of Operations, Ingenza Ltd.
