Construction
at the site of the new Roslin Innovation Centre had to stop for eight weeks for resident oystercatchers when they decided to set up home amongst the rubble. All wild birds in Scotland have protected status and oystercatchers have been protected since 1906.
These beautiful birds may have chosen to nest at the building site due to the open aspect and the similarity to their typical habitat of coastline and rocky shores.
During the breeding season, oystercatchers can often be found inland and are known to return to nest at the same site for many years.
The building works are now back on track and making good progress with completion expected in the summer of 2017.
"The Roslin Innovation Centre will provide companies with state-of-the-art facilities, first class customer service and accelerated access to strategic research opportunities."
John Mackenzie, CEO, Roslin Innovation Centre
